Job Description 

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Payroll Analyst to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will manage end-to-end payroll processes for Australian and New Zealand employees,  ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting in accordance with local tax laws and labor regulations. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • End-to-End Payroll Processing: 
  • Collect, compile, and enter payroll data into the system with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness. 
  • Ensure timely receipt of inputs and on-time delivery of payroll data as per agreed timelines.
  • Responsible for the timely submission of all payroll data to clients with 100% accuracy.
  • Compliance & Statutory Reporting: 
  • Submit all payroll-related statutory data (e.g., PAYG, Superannuation, state payroll taxes)  accurately and on time. 
  • Prepare and maintain payroll compliance checklists for Australia & New Zealand.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the tax treatment of employer-paid and one-time benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with local payroll tax laws and regulations across Australian states and New  Zealand. 
  • Stay up to date with Australia and New Zealand labor laws, including the Fair Work Act and other relevant employment standards. 
  • Monitor and implement legislative updates into payroll systems and processes.
  • Reconciliation & Reporting: 
  • Perform monthly payroll and headcount reconciliations, variance analysis, and bank file reconciliations. 
  • Prepare internal and external audit support documentation. 
  • Responsible for the timely delivery of bank files and other payroll reports as per the agreed timelines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely year-end reporting as required by the business. 
  • Garnishment & Leave Management: 
  • Calculate garnishments and ensure 100% compliance with applicable rules and legislation.
  • Well-versed in leave calculations as per local legislation in Australia & New Zealand.
  • Knowledgeable in KiwiSaver, PAYE, ACC, and other statutory deductions as per New Zealand laws. 

System & Process Improvement: 

  • Prepare for and support payroll audits by preparing necessary reports and documentation.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage client communications, including calls and emails, independently. 

Desired Candidate Profile 

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in processing Australia & New Zealand payroll. 
  • Background in Payroll, HR, Finance, or Payroll Systems. 
  • Experience in outsourcing/shared services environments or managing large payroll volumes is a plus. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Familiarity with payroll software or platforms (e.g., ADP, Ascender, or similar).
  • Understanding of TNA, direct debit setup of various payments such as salary, payroll tax, and  PAYG. 

Knowledge & Compliance: 

  • Thorough knowledge of Australia & New Zealand employment laws and regulations, including the  Fair Work Act and Service Australia. 
  • Well-versed in ongoing legislation changes and implementation into payroll systems.
  • Understanding of payroll implementation processes, including discovery calls, element configuration, and other audit controls. 
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written). 
  • Ability to manage deadlines under pressure in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Independent management of client calls and emails. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Certification in payroll or HR (desirable, not mandatory). 
  • Experience with payroll software or platforms (e.g., ADP, Ascender, or similar).
  • Background in Payroll, HR, Finance, or Payroll Systems.
